EMBO Roundtable on Talent Recruitment

EMBO-sponsored Roundtable on “How to communicate Talent Recruitment to the polititians and the media?”

This EMBO-sponsored Roundtable is dedicated to make a connection between the politicians and the leaders of the NYEX (including the youngest generation in science) in a round table discussion about the recruitment of the talented youth to scientific research and the different supportive actions towards this aim. A panel of experts from different fields will help NYEX to formulate their needs in a way that can be put as a part of the international political agenda. The results will be published in the proceedings book and will be sent to several politicians in Europe as well as to the media.

It is essential to create the connection between the similar research professionals in different countries, because it will rise the level of their work and opens new possibilities with the fluent flow of information, but it is working better and better within the NYEX. What is really needed to reach our goals is to create a hot-wire connection with the politicians as it has been said in the previous NATO-UNESCO Advanced Research Workshops, because they have a major role in helping fulfil our goals. Therefore we would like to set up a round table discussion between a panel of expert politicians and the leaders of the NYEX including several excellent young scientists. The result of the round table will be summarized for the participants of the 3rd NATO-UNESCO Advanced Research Workshop, published in the proceedings book and sent to a wide range of politicians in Europe as well as to the media.

Discussion summary

The conference was preceded by a satellite roundtable on the communication of research training to politicians and to the media on Thursday afternoon, 19th Oct. at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest spnsored by EMBO Small Grants Sheme for Initiatives in Science & Society. The participants of the roundtable were representatives from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Israeli Ministry of Education, FEBS, UNESCO and experts from Albania and Hungary. NYEX was represented by the Executive Board members (from Croatia, Korea and the USA) as well as by a panel of young student researchers.  The conclusion of the roundtable was to induce such a self-reinforcing circle, where the media is provided with outstanding examples of successful young researchers, the increased public interest would attract politicians as patrons, who get positive feed-back through the media.
